AVTS Roadworthy Stations is a privately owned vehicle testing operation based in the Western Cape. Originally established in 1992, it became well-known as a pioneer in the industry, being the first of its kind in the Cape Peninsula. AVTS and its 7 branches are situated in various strategic positions in and around Cape Town, and employ 81 members of staff. Backed by ISO 9000 certification, it has received numerous accolades over the years.

By April 2011, AVTS had already performed 1 million tests. Today, it continues to provide statutory roadworthy testing, and added-value services for the convenience of the public. AVTS has an accredited training centre, registered by the SASSETA, and presenting training to the roadworthy industry in quality management and vehicle examiner training.

AVTS offers consultancy services to neighbouring countries, and has played an integral role in the technical support of the establishment of vehicle examination centres in Mauritius, where it has provided training to examiners, a quality management system, IT system, technical support as well as consulting in the design, procurement and commissioning of the centres.

In September 2010, German company TÜV SÜD purchased a 26% share in the company. This partnership has provided a platform for TÜV SÜD to expand their footprint in South Africa, while providing AVTS with access to international expertise and a global footprint. Since the beginning of 2015, AVTS has provided the Customer Interaction Centre and Back Office for TÜV SÜD Auto Services, who performs buy-back inspections for commercial vehicles.
