Vehicle test stations in the Western Cape started operating on Monday 1st June 2020, subject to ensuring compliance to the COVID-19 safety protocols. All the AVTS branches have implemented preventative measures to ensure that employees and customers will be welcomed into a safe and sanitised environment, with the proper social distancing protocols. Customers are expected to wear masks, have their temperature taken, complete a contact tracing register and practice safe social distancing while queuing or waiting. Booking is advised to prevent unnecessary waiting times.

If you had a valid roadworthy and it expired during the period 27 March to 31 May 2020, it will be deemed to be valid for a further 90 days from 1st June 2020. This also applies to all other types of licences; Trade Plates are  deemed to be valid in the same way, with their validity period extended for a further grace period of 6 months.

Re-tests: If your vehicle failed at AVTS just before the lockdown, you are entitled to re-submit the vehicle for a FREE Re-test before the 15th June, during which a full test will be done. If the vehicle fails, your next test will be considered a new test which has to be paid.
